Restrictions / Guidelines on Access & Downloading of Licensed E-Resources

Access to licensed e-Resources (e-books, e-journals, and other digital resources) is governed by the Terms of Use as per the license agreement between the Library and the respective publishers.

The e-Resources are licensed for the non-profit educational use of the Institute. Copyright law, in addition to individual license agreements, also governs the use of these e-Resources.

Systematic downloading, distributing, or retaining substantial portions of information is prohibited by the library's contract with the publishers. Under the terms of use, it neither permits forwarding electronic versions of articles nor the use of electronic articles for commercial purposes.

Note: Improper use can result in denial of access for the whole Institute to all electronic journals from a given publisher.

WHAT'S NOT PERMITTED

  • Robots and Systematic Downloading Systematic downloading using robots, spiders, or manual means is strictly prohibited. Publishers track usage patterns, and if misuse (e.g., continuous downloading from a particular journal) is suspected, they may cut off access for the entire Institute. This disrupts research for all users.
  • Excessive Downloading & Sharing Downloading, copying, or printing more than one article per issue of a journal, downloading hundreds of bibliographic records, or entire e-books without permission is illegal. Storing entire journals or books on personal devices or writable CDs for distribution is strictly prohibited.

WHAT IS PERMITTED

  • Viewing Articles on Screen Viewing multiple articles from an electronic journal on the screen is permitted. Incidental copying (caching) by your web browser during viewing is allowed, provided there is no intent to store the copy permanently.
  • Storing or Printing Single Articles You may download, copy to disk, or print a single article per issue of an electronic journal or a single chapter from an e-book for personal, non-commercial academic use. Always ensure you act within copyright laws and the publisher’s license terms.
