IIT Kanpur’s library started functioning in 1960 at the HBTI campus which was, at the time, being used as a temporary abode for the Institute.

The Jay Pullur reading room (Inaugurated on 21 july 2023 )of the PK Kelkar library is situated on the ground floor. The furnishing of the room has been made possible by the generous donation of the family of Mr. Jay Pullur. This room is used extensively by the members of IITK, especially the students. This space can accommodate about 150 users at any given time.
